Taxes and Spending
I never voted for a tax increase since I was elected in 1992 because I believe that Government should live within its means just as families must.
Civil Liberties
Protected personal and financial data on Virginia driver’s license. (Marshall’s HB 1587 passed)
Campaign Contributions
Barred Anonymous Internet campaign donations via “cash cards” (Marshall HB 1658 passed House)
Funding from China
Rejected money from Communist China to “balance” Virginia’s Budget and make our children and grandchildren debtors to foreign dictators. (HB 1600)
Unconstitutional Taxing Authorities
Blocked Illegal-Unconstitutional Taxes: Bob Marshall, the ONLY state official to challenge a law allowing unelected officials to raise our taxes, won 7-0 in the Virginia Supreme Court over the Governor, Attorney General, Speaker of the House and 114 General Assembly members. “… the General Assembly may not delegate its taxing power to a non-elected body …” Marshall vs. NVTA (2008)
New Taxes Not Needed
The “Wilder Commision of Efficiency & Effectiveness” found Virginia could save at least $750 million a year without cutting services (in 2002). Based on the current budget, the savings would be over $1 Billion a year. Former Governor Wilder and the COO of Capital One headed the year-long Commission. Their recommendations have been largely ignored by the last two Governors.
